Please note that TGA restrictions do not allow the use of the name of the agent used to weaken muscles, and the term ‘Wrinkle Relaxer’ is therefore used when referring to its’ cosmetic applications. The agent was originally developed to treat medical problems where there is muscle over-activity, and is used today to effectively treat a number of conditions.

Dr Rodrigues is available for neurological consultation regarding the use of these agents to treat the following conditions:

  • Migraines and other headaches
  • Excessive axillary sweating (hyperhidrosis)
  • Facial asymmetry due to muscle weakness or over-activity (often present from birth, but can occur after damage to the facial nerve, such as after Bell’s Palsy or a head and neck surgery)
  • Hypersalivation associated with neurological
  • Knee pain from abnormal kneecap ‘tracking’ (requires referral from orthopedic surgeon or sports medicine physician

A referral from your GP or specialist is required, and although medicare rebates are available for the consultation, the injections are not covered by the pharmaceutical benefits scheme (PBS). Some private health funds may offer reimbursement but we suggest you speak to your fund.
